The Importance of Progressive Lenses in Different Life Stages

Progressive lenses are designed to address presbyopia and can be categorized into two stages:

  • Early Presbyopia (Ages 40+) – People in this age group often experience reduced focus, making near (reading) vision difficult. Progressive lenses help improve clarity at all distances from far to near vision with one lens.
  • Late Presbyopia (Ages 60+) – In addition to reduced focus and difficulty with near and intermediate vision, those in this age group may also face ocular health risks such as cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. Progressive lenses, combined with primary eye care for these conditions, can help restore sharp vision.

At Occura, our optometrist performs assessments using the advanced Wave Analyzer Medica (WAM) and a Slit Lamp Biomicroscope. This precise equipment enables a thorough examination of the eye’s structures—from the eyelids, eyelashes, and conjunctiva to the lens. This detailed approach helps detect early signs of eye conditions, allowing for accurate, personalized eye care recommendations.

This ensures accurate lens fitting and effective vision correction.

Frequently Asked Questions About Progressive Lenses

Determining the progressive lens brand best suited for you depends on your prescription and lifestyle.  At Occura, our expert optometrists will guide you through the entire process, from eye exams to frame selection, and explain the features and advantages of high-quality lenses from top brands like Rodenstock, Zeiss, Nikon, Essilor, Hoya, and Shamir to match your needs.

High-quality progressive lenses at Occura start at 6,900 THB.

Progressive lenses that are photochromic and filter blue light start at 14,400 THB.

A complete eye exam, frame selection, and selection of the right progressive lenses for your prescription typically take 1 to 1.5 hours.

Depending on the type of progressive lenses you choose, it generally takes 7 to 14 days for your lenses to be ready.

Yes, you can. Our optometrists and opticians will ensure that the lenses are properly fitted to your frames.

First-time wearers of progressive lenses need to practice how to use the lenses, especially adapting to the peripheral areas where the vision may appear distorted. For example, when viewing objects to the side, you must turn your head rather than just glancing to the side. Progressive lenses also have different zones for near and far vision, so you’ll need to train your eyes to look through the correct areas for sharp vision. Your ability to adapt depends on having an accurate prescription, getting properly fitted frames, and receiving proper guidance.

Due to the nature of progressive lenses, which blend different prescriptions for near, intermediate, and distance vision, there will be some distortion (oblique astigmatism) at the edges when you look sideways. Current technology hasn’t yet eliminated this side distortion completely.

Progressive lenses use advanced technology to create lenses that offer multiple vision corrections in a single lens, especially for those with presbyopia. Each brand incorporates different innovations, which can affect the price.

Premium progressive lenses are designed with better technology to minimize side distortion when glancing left or right. They accommodate a wider range of vision behaviors and are easier to adapt to.

Both premium and individual progressive lenses are customized based on your prescription, eye structure, and frame shape. However, individual lenses go further by factoring in your actual frame parameters and vision habits to create a more precise fit. This reduces side distortion and allows for more natural adaptation.

  1. Frames should not be too large, as oversized frames increase peripheral distortion. Avoid curved frames, like sporty styles with a curvature of 12 degrees or more. Choose frames with adjustable nose pads to prevent slippage and keep the lenses centered.

Absolutely. Skilled opticians ensure that every detail of your frames and lenses is adjusted correctly, such as the angle of the nose pads and frame tilt. These factors are crucial for comfort, allowing you to make the most of your progressive lenses.

If you experience blurred vision or eye strain, it could be due to several factors, such as improper lens placement or inaccurate prescription. Consult with our optometrists to identify the issue and make the necessary adjustments.

Yes, Occura provides trial lenses from all major brands, including Zeiss, Rodenstock, Nikon, Hoya, Essilor, and Shamir.

Yes, glass progressive lenses are available at Occura, with prices starting at 25,500 THB.

You can bring your frames; there’s no need to leave them at our shop while waiting for the customized progressive lens. Once the lenses have arrived, we will invite you to our shop to assemble the lens onto your existing frame. This process should take around 30 minutes.

Yes, but you should wait 3 to 4 weeks post-surgery to ensure there are no infections, inflammation, or swelling before getting progressive lenses.

In addition to progressive lenses, Occura offers lenses for nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and blue light filtering, photochromic lenses, bifocal lenses, reading glasses, myopia control lenses for children, and prescription sunglasses.
